Youth Ministry Team Application

- Dear Potential Youth Ministry Team Member,
  
  I am glad that you are interested in serving on the Team for Youth Ministry at Saint Ann Catholic Church! We are looking for faith-filled committed adults to serve as a member of the Team, and help us to bring this needed ministry to the teenagers in our parish and neighborhood. The mission of our youth ministry is to lead teens closer to Christ. Running an effective youth ministry program requires a strong team of volunteers working at all levels – from Team members who lead small groups to those who setup the environment and work behind the scenes.
  The Team is of upmost importance as effective youth ministry in our world today is founded on the relationships between the adult volunteers and the young people that they minister to. In other words, teens today do not care how much you know until you can show them that you care about them. Relationships are key to teens feeling loved and accepted so that they can understand the love of God in practical ways. Teens have a strong desire to grow and develop healthy and positive relationships with others and with Jesus Christ; therefore, it is important for us to engage our young people where they are to bring them into personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  
  One of the goals of the Team is to access the wealth and diversity of resources within and around Saint Ann Catholic Church, so we can provide a meaningful and effective faith formation program for our High School teens. We strive to engage the energy, imagination, curiosity, compassion, and playful spirit of high school teens in order to allow them to engage and explore our Catholic faith. It is important for our young people to learn how to be men and women of faith from people who are currently men and women of faith. Thus, the quality of our Core Team volunteers is very important. We are looking for men and women who have made a commitment to Christ and have a passion to love, lead, and care for teens. If you feel called to serve our youth in this capacity, please prayerfully read the enclosed materials and complete the Team Application. Once we have your application, I will contact you to schedule an appointment to further discuss your application and your role as a member of the Team. All the information will be kept strictly confidential. Youth ministry is a great way to give of your time and talents and to serve the Lord in Stewardship.   Saint Ann Catholic Church’s Youth Ministry is committed to leading teens closer to Christ. We believe young people are an important and integral part of our parish community. We seek to foster maturing in faith of the youth of our parish and the surrounding community. We affirm the gifts of our youth and we foster opportunities for young people to share their time, talents, and treasure with each other as well as the larger community. The spiritual and social needs of the youth are to be met with the committed leadership, guidance and support of our Core Team and other parish adults. Through a variety of programs, events and outreach, we seek to draw young people into responsible participation in the life, work and mission of the Catholic Church. We believe this ministry is to, with, by, and for young people and is a blessing for the entire community.
- About Youth Ministry
  
  Our high school Youth Group will meet weekly on Sunday evenings from 6:00-8:00pm. Our evenings encompass catechesis and a variety of different social and service-oriented activities. Our nights begin with dinner provided by our parents and team members. A typical evening will be divided into 4 parts and looks similar to this:
  GATHER: Dinner and opening activity.
  PROCLAIM: Teaching.
  BREAK: Large/Small Group Discussion and/or Activity.
  SEND: Prayer experience to challenge teens to live their faith in their everyday life.
  We may do fundraisers throughout the year as needed. Our evenings and activities would continue year-round apart from major holiday weekends.

  experience with Jesus, we invite teens to encounter Christ, guide them in discovering their true identity,
  and equip them to transform the world. We entrust our mission to the Blessed Mother.”
  
  Commitment to Holiness
  
  I will develop my personal relationship with God through prayer and the Sacraments
  
  I will abide by the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  
  I will actively seek opportunities to pray with friends, teens, and other Core members.
  
  I will frequent the Sacraments of Eucharist and Reconciliation.
  
  Commitment to Team
  
  I will support all members in their ministry with teens. I understand the importance of our team functioning as a unified team.
  
  I will attend all Team meetings. I understand that for Youth Ministry to flourish all Members need to be informed of upcoming activities and events.
  
  If I cannot attend a meeting or will be late, I will call/text the Director of Faith Formation as early as possible.
  
  I will make every effort to attend spiritual and social gatherings for Team members.
  
  Commitment to Teens
  
  I will develop Christ-centered relationships with high school teenagers.
  
  I will make outreach to new teens a priority in my ministry. I will dedicate as much time to developing new relationships with teens as I do fostering old ones.
  
  In the area of crisis intervention, if a teen shares something with me where the teen or someone else may be in danger of being hurt, then I will let the teen know of my obligation to tell the Director of Faith Formation, who I will inform immediately. In a situation where I am not sure about the likelihood of danger, I will consult with the Director of Faith Formation.
  
  I will abide by all policies and procedures set forth by the Diocese of Nashville and Saint Ann Catholic Church, including completing all Safe Environment requirements.
  
  Commitment to Youth Ministry
  Evening Events
  
  I will attend every evening event that I can. If I cannot attend, I will let the Director of Faith Formation know ahead of time.
  
  I understand that Team Members are essential to the productivity of an evening meeting.
  
  When I am on the evening meeting Planning Team, I will do all that is necessary to prepare for the evening— including meeting with the Director of Faith Formation.
  
  I will involve myself actively in the planning of evening events during Meetings.
  
  I will help teens understand that they are expected to come on time and stay through the closing prayer of evening events.
  
  I will sit with teens at dinner and engage in conversation with them. I understand that relational ministry is of upmost importance.
  
  Before, during, and after the event, I will mingle with teens and introduce myself to those I don’t know. I will seek out teens who look disconnected or alone.
  
  I will be available for evening event set-up and clean-up.
  
  I will remain after the event to pray for the teens using intentions from the “Prayer box.”
  
  Retreats/ Trips
  
  I will attend and fully participate in the planning of retreats and trips.
  
  If chosen to give a Proclaim for a session, I will coordinate with the Director of Faith Formation so that I can prepare a talk that preserves the integrity of the session.
  
  If chosen to lead a small group, I will treat teens as peers and not as someone who is “lesser” than me.
  
  Fundraisers
  
  I will actively help the Director of Faith Formation plan and coordinate any necessary fundraisers.
  
  I will try my best to attend fundraisers. If I cannot attend fundraisers, I will let the Director of Faith Formation know ahead of time.
  
  I am honored to respond to my baptismal call by serving through this ministry. We are a Eucharist-centered, relational ministry whose primary purpose is to lead teens closer to Christ. In order to respond fully, I understand that joining the Team involves committing to three things: Holiness, Team, and Teens.
