The Basics of my Classroom
I try to teach by example. And the thing I desire the most for my students is to develop a respect for others and themselves. By focusing on the strengths and interests of each student I hope to instill a sense of respect for all.
My classroom is the library. I teach about the library and library skills, to Pre-K through 4th grade. We listen to various stories, and learn many essential skills to learn to navigate the library experience. And best of all, I want the children to leave the library with a love of reading and learning. Hoping like me, that they will think "so many books, so little time."
Part of learning about the library is learning special library rules. This is also something that I start teaching right from the beginning. Being quiet and respect for all materials is one of the most important things we learn in the library.
Student have library once a week. Grades Pre-K through 2nd are allowed to check out one book a week, while students in grades 3 and 4 may check out two.
Most of all, I want the students to enjoy the library and become engaged in reading.
My Background
I was born and raised in Tennessee's "secret city", Oak Ridge. After graduation from High School there, I made my way to MTSU in Murfreesboro. There I received a degree in elementary education.
I began my career teaching at a preschool in Murfreesboro. I was on of the first teachers there, and we worked together to develop and education program for young learners. dDuring my 6 years there, I taught every age group. I also taught 2 years in a self contained K classroom, as well as many administrative duties.
Through a series of unexpected events, I found my way to Saint Ann in 1986. I always felt that God truly led me here. I have assumed many duties since coming on staff here. These include Kindergarten teacher, 4th grade teacher, substitute teacher, teacher mentor, tutor, before school care supervisor, and lunchroom supervisor. I am now most pleased to be working as one of the librarians. I LOVE IT!
