All About Pre-k!
I love learning through experiences! The Pre-K classroom is designed with the child in mind! Students will learn through many hands on activities. Our day begins with a prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance, and table activities. We then move to the carpet for a morning meeting which consists of calendar, the weather, schedule, special intentions and prayer, a glimpse of a saint’s life, movement, some type of academic activity, and more! Next, we go outside to get our wiggles out! After outside play, students return to the classroom for small group time. During this time, students are divided into ability groups in order for me to meet each child’s specific needs and challenge them to reach their full potential and beyond! During small groups, we work on handwriting, math, literacy, language, phonics, and much more! We will have a special class ( P.E., Music, or Library) sometime in the morning. Afterwards, we will have recess and lunch, then a whole group time. This time will focus on science, social studies, and religion. Next, students take a nap to rejuvenate themselves for center time! Centers and snack are at the end of the day. Students may choose from many centers including dramatic play, blocks, science, math, books, literacy, puzzles, religion, puppets, handwriting, trains, geography, and more! We end our day with clean up, a review of our day, and prayer. Pre-K dismisses at 2:45 pm.
Curriculums that Pre-K uses are Learning Without Tears (also known as Handwriting Without Tears), Zoo-phonics, Catechesis of the Good Shephard, Allelu!, and other supplemental resources. We follow Tennessee state standards and the Diocese of Nashville curriculum standards.
My teaching background
I graduated from Middle Tennessee Sate University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies/ Elementary Education in 2009. I began my teaching career that fall at Saint Bernard Academy. During my time there, I taught first grade and Pre-K. In 2013, I saw an opportunity to join the Saint Ann faculty. This has always been a dream of mine to come back to my home and teach! Since I became a teacher at Saint Ann, I have taught 7th grade Literature, Spelling, and English, 5th-8th grade Global Studies, 4th grade, 1st grade, and Pre-K. I love every minute of it! I love being able to help each child grow and learn academically, spiritually, emotionally, socially, and more! I am truly blessed to be back home!
