The Basics of My Classroom
In Music Class, students will learn how to read, write, and compose music in age-appropriate ways and they will also be able to perform their compositions. We use a variety of pitched and unpitched percussion instruments in the classroom in all grades. As students move through the grades, they will have the opportunity to play the following instruments: Xylophones, glockenspiels, handbells, recorders, and the World Music Drum Circle. Singing and Liturgy music are also a part of every music class.
Drama classes are used as an avenue to not only develop our students’ dramatic performance skills but also to encourage team building, concentration, and communication skills. Our school curriculum is supported by "Getting Started With Drama" by Karen L. Erickson. In addition to this text, lessons come from many books and resources in the drama room and include the use of skits, games, story books, poetry, fairy tales, music, newspapers, photographs, puppetry, and, most importantly, our imaginations.
