Alison Derner

 

My name is Alison Derner and I am the third grade teacher at Saint Ann’s School. Third grade is such an amazing year. When you come into my classroom, you will see a log cabin filled with books where students regularly  spend time. Third  grade is the first year where students have the opportunity to study novels. One of the third grade novels is Little House in the Big Woods.  Therefore, the cabin serves as a great learning tool for us throughout the year. All Saints Day is particularly special  because third graders get to complete a saint project and dress up as their patron saint. At All Saint’s Day  Mass, process in to celebrate this wonderful feast day. Third graders get very excited for new challenges such as learning cursive and multiplication. It is a great transitional year where students are encouraged to continue their academic exploration as they graduate to “This End of the Hall.” 

I graduated from Vanderbilt University in 2009 with a  B.S. in Human Development and B.A. in Political Science. I earned two minors in African American and Diaspora Studies as well as Music Literature. I graduated with my Masters in Elementary Education at Aquinas College in 2021.
